HI,

There has been a number of discussions here about the rear sway bar mounts and whether they are strong enough. There are certainly a number of people that report bent or broken mounts. I'm looking to put some actual numbers on these incidents.

So, if you have upgraded your Rear Sway Bar (RSB), please vote on this poll.

Thanks.

A mate w/ stock 2.0GT suspension & WL RSB set to full-hard did this:

This tragedy resulted in the shipment of ten (10) AVO brackets to Australia - they've all been fitted & we can breathe a sigh of relief.

My mate's car is now fine after some beautiful welding & fitment of said brackets.

Take a close look at the stock mount. It is not a question of IF the mount will break, it is a question of WHEN.

RSB: AVO

Endlinks: AVO

Mounting brackets: stock - I have an AVO reinforcement set on the way

Springs: iON

Problems: N/A

I just installed the AVO reinforcement brackets, so my setup will need to be updated.

Endlinks: AVO

Mounting brackets: AVO reinforcements

Springs: iON

Problems: Only time will tell.

Well mine now looks exactly like this. Heard the clunk on the way home for lunch today and I knew what it was before I even got out and looked.

I am running pinks, Cobb links and bar in the softer setting ... however I never installed the reinforcing brackets which they include. I could never break that 19mm bolt through the subframe loose, (it can be half way seen in the top right corner of the picture above), so I never installed them.

A word to the wise, install 'em if you got 'em ... if you ain't got them you hit rock bottom.

Any way enough from Sublime. It goes with out saying, they are going to get in stalled this time, but my question is am I going to have to replace that whole rear sub-frame assembly or will welding work?

Any one with experience care to comment?

Damn!! I need to get over here more often.

Short story...

My wife drives the Legacy typically so I drive it only a few times a month...just to listen for wierd things and to stay on top of maintenance.

I get in last week and hear the tale-tale rear knocking/clunking sound. First I thought something was loose in the trunk because the noise was intermittent. After a few minutes longer I came to the conclusion that there was a suspension issue. So I get home, put the car in the air, remove the wheel and see...

I really never paid attention to how this particular piece was constructed but now that i've had a good look at it, it looks like crap and it performed to that standard as well. Obviously it was not designed to work with aftermarket RSB's but I would have paid the extra 10-20,000 yen it would have taken to engineer this "L" bracket a little better. :unamused:

FWIW, i'm gonna have the bracket welded and reinforced. It should cost only around $100 bucks to have done.

In hindsight, I should have done a bit more research when I purchased the swaybar/spring combo a few years back. I remember briefly reading about a recall (Progress) but really didn't give it much thought.

Bump. Anyone with cusco rsb have a problem?

Doesn't matter the brand of RSB. This happens regardless of brand because the stock mounts are not very strong. Some have even bent them with aggressive driving with the stock sway bar. If you are thinking of upgrading your RSB (which makes the car feel a lot better), look into getting the reinforcement mounts.
