GTTuner
.....you drive a Dodge Ram with a Cummins diesel and you inadvertantly downshift to 1st instead of 3rd. I have been with Chrysler for 14 years and this is the first Cummins motor i have seen fail.

GTTuner
Yes, bang bang too! It came in running! Look at the piece of valve stem stuck in the turbo compressor. Get this, warranty cost of this claim is going to be about $13,000.

Penguin
Considering what it went through, it is a testament to the Cummins that it was still plugging away on it's own power when it came in. Then again with the heads off you can see just how heavy duty that block is, and the heads look really solid too. So is the customer getting a new motor, or just a rebuild? mickeyd2005
Why would it be warrantied? That looks like the valve is stuck in the turbine wheel.

GTTuner
Why would it be warrantied? That looks like the valve is stuck in the turbine wheel. It is warranty because should not have failed! Those motors are IMO a legend in terms of reliability.
iyalla
Yep. When you buy a Cummins Diesel its pretty much guaranteed that you are buying it to abuse the snot out of it. Should not have failed.
