Why do our cars hold revs?

Recommended Posts

I just put a new turboback on my '07 MT LGT and since I like the sound, I blip the throttle occasionally to about 5000 rpms while parked. The car holds at 5000 rpms for about a second and a half before going back to normal. Why is that?

I've searched but can only find that other cars have the same "problem". Is there any way to fix this?

Nothing to fix it's not a bug, it's a feature.

Makes shifting easier.

Is there any way I can disable this "feature"?

I want to be able to sit at a stoplight and rev my engine at a ricer. Just kidding but that's the only way I know how to explain it.

Add in the weight of the PP and the stock crank pulley..you're probly closer to 65 lbs

First off don't know why the pulley was brought up?

OEM fly = 28.2 lbs

OEM 06 WRX fly = 23.8 lbs

ACT fly = 13.9 lbs

crank pulley = 5lbs

LW pulley = 1 lb

OEM PP = 11.6 lbs

Bullyclutches 06 WRX Pressure Plate (which should weigh the same as an OEM one and ACT one cause they all mod OEM ones) = 10.8 lbs

Bullyclutches 06 WRX clutch (which is a lot more HD in appearance) = 4.2 lbs

OEM clutch = 2.8 lbs

Total mass for OEM (PP, fly, clutch, and pulley) = 47.6

Total mass for my Bullyclutch set-up w/ LW pulley (which would be about the same for ACT set-up, BUT with OEM 06 rex fly) = 39.8

Total mass for the above but with ACT LW fly = 29.9 (app)
