importtund
Ok, I feel stupid again, as I did when I asked the difference between the BH/BG-BD/ and so forth, but..... What makes a legacy a legacy-outback? Is my 99' legacy LTD ah legacy-outback or just ah legacy?
Bdubs
Just a legacy. Early model years featured large fog lights, and a bigger suspension. Other than that, everything else is the same. Newer models feature an H6 engine which isn't available in a plain ole Legacy. There is a wagon and a sedan(SUS-sport utility sedan). It started as just a trim package in 95, but then became its own model line in 96. There is also an Impreza Wagon "Outback", but thats an entirely different thing. WTF? and on another site you select legacy al the way through the choices and it gives you results for "outback chassis" http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/bizshop/yymmp/subaru/legacy/rack_and_pinion_assembly/1999/1999.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&apwkwd=99+Subaru+Legacy+Rack+and+Pinion+Assembly http://www2.partstrain.com/partlisting/full/subaru/legacy/rack_and_pinion_assembly/1999/1999.html?ptc=S1171391678W45d204bec356b&ptk=1999+Subaru+Legacy+Rack+and+Pinion+Assembly+-+Subaru+99+Rack+and+Pinion+Assembly I'm so confused, I don't wanna pay 250 for sumthin that's not going to work and subaru wants an ass load of cash to order this thing... Bdubs
They're all the same part #, so they both must fit outback and legacy's.

See that's what I though, but the people at subaru are telling me their slightly different, I think their just trying to get the sell... I guess I'll order it and find out?! Thanks for the help... Bdubs
I'm worried they may be different, because the suspensions are different between the two cars. Your best bet would be to get the part number from the stealership, then go to subarugenuineparts.com or subarupartsforyou.com, and you can enter the part number right on the site. Even if you purchase the incorrect item, as long as you provide your VIN, they will let you know you bought the wrong thing, and correct it. Very nice and convienient. I'm an OEM nut, something like that I would only use a genuine subaru part.
