Since I am currently happy with the acceleration of my stock set up (and nursing my powertrain warranty), I figured I would install some exhaust cans to make the sewing machine sound a little angrier. Picked up some used Perrin axel-backs from wichitalegacy for a great price and here you have it. Starting her up now puts a smile on my face, I love the low end burble. As expected the car feels faster though I'm sure it's not. I somehow feel more connected to the car now that I can hear it. Also sounds meaner in a "cleaner" sounding way vs previous hogzaust stage 2 mod. STi Boy Posted February 22, 2007 Share Posted February 22, 2007 how much did u get those perrin cans for?? im also looking at axlebacks and im in the same situation as you... i was wondering if all i wanted was appearance and a meaner growl...should i just get 2 universal mufflers and get them welded on? eldiablo Posted February 22, 2007 Author Share Posted February 22, 2007 The perrin cans sell for between $300 - $400 used. JSC sells them new / shipped for $500. You sometimes find them pieced from a complete cat-back system that someone is parting out or doesn't want the cans. I'm sure your local muffler shop can make it sound as mean as you want for around $250. Been pulled over for other infractions and police never raised any concerns over the tail tints. DMV on the other hand may have a differerent take come inspection time. Dunno. My VB Garage...
