Maxim's 2005 Wagon of the Year is...

Maxims "Plusses" are pretty standard, but here are the drawbacks: A stiffer ride and noisier engine and exhaust than a typical family car are the prices to pay for the car's sporty character. And you'd think Subaru's corporate policy of marketing to lesbians would help you break the ice with such women, but it doesn't. (We tried.)
No, the name has nothing to do with bragging about 20 inch wheels...

I have heard this forever but the comment prompted some interesting searches...like this one - http://www.warroom.com/gaysubaru.htm According to this article, Subaru doesn't seem to "altruistically" market to gays and lesbians, just makes sure that their advertising is inclusive and able to be interpreted by the market's various filters. Back on topic, - would like to read the whole Maxim article on the LGT. Can't imagine that the engine and exhaust are more noticeable than a family car. Family cars must really have some sound deadening. SBT

This was a feature on this months magazine, picking the 10 best cars of 05 in diff categories, like wagon of the year, joyride, suv, ragtop... Remainder of the short article: Subaru Legacy GT Limited Wagon "Cart the family around town Monday through Friday, then carve up twisty back roads over the weekend." Spec Check: Price: 29000 Engine: 2.5-liter, 250 bhp Boxer-4 0-60: 6.0 seconds Top Speed: 130 mph We say: So you grew up and got the family, the house, and the steady nine-to-five gig, but you'd rather become a penis transplant donor than drive a minivan. Don't worry: Endowed with troom for five adults and a week's worth of groceries, this Subie wagon still rivals a Porsche Boxter in the 0-60. Thanks to its proven all0wheel drive system (standard on every Subaru), the Legacy smokes most SUVs off-road and out-corners many sports cars back on the asphalt. (Congratulations on passing on the upmarket Outback, whose higher ground clearance and all-season tires sacrifice handling.) Supportive leather-trimmed seats and a Momo-designed steering wheel with Sportshift gear-change controls on either side encourage full-throttle driving. The oversize dual-panel moonroof offers a variety of ventilation and viewing options, while numerous storage bins proved hiding places for booze, pills, and everything else you'll need for a road trip with the kids. Sidebar: Hiroki factoid! Subaru's 4WD system got off the ground when Japan's Ministry of Forestry contracted the company to make a small off-roader. Banzai! The picture is an illustration with soccer balls in the background and a caption of "What, no woodgrain body cladding?" This was published in maxim and I take no credit for any of the facts (and inconcistancies) contained and if I broke the law, sorry. Please buy the magazine, Huzzah! -Chris W.
