1997 SUS
Hey I got this car as a hand me down. Only has 78,987 miles. It Clanks when I start it and it seems to continue to clank as I drive along. I have to admit once the engine warms up, the clanking sound gets lower. I know I got a box engine in the car - does this mean I have to live with the sound?? Any fixes??? Thanks for the help.
Bdubs
Legacy SUS is a nice car, pretty rare except for around the Northeast. Not particularly sure if you are describing the "normal" sound these engines make when they are cold, but mine makes a very distinct sound as well. Its hard to describe what something sounds like, but if its more than a tick after the car has warmed up, there may be an issue.

You need to put on the subaru oversized pistons. It will make the noise go away.
