Detroit Auto Show Preview: Chevy Malibu, We're Not Through With You?

Embargo? Ha -- more like "O Grab Me." Which is what you should do now to the pictures and details we've provided for you of the new-for-2008 Chevy Malibu, as it appears Edmunds may have jumped the gun on the embargo date for Chevy's new mid-size. All we've got now in terms of details come to us from Dan Pund's article over at the 'net big boy of auto traffic. The pictures on the other hand -- we were lucky and managed to smuggle those out of the RenCen Death Star -- but only at a very high cost to the Rebellion. Many bureaucrats died to bring you this information -- but here's what we've got on what appears to be the best looking mid-size to come out of the General's American Revolution in what feels like just shy of forever:

-built on the General's front-wheel-drive Boring Epsilon platform.

-uses long-wheelbase version (112.3-inches, but his girlfriend says it's really only 105.3) that was used on the Malibu Maxx quasi-rectangle.

-252 hp double-overhead-cam 3.6-liter V6 ( Yay! More power to the front wheels.) on the up-sized model and the base engine moves up to a 2.4-liter Ecotec, giving it an extra 20 hp.

-6-speed auto with optional steering-wheel-mounted shifting (for that Ferrari-like feel -- without anything else to make you think it's actually a Ferrari.)

-The interior sounds like it looks pretty effing hawt.

We've got nothing else on this -- Chevy didn't want to give us embargo access because they thought we'd break it or something. Ha -- yeah, cause right now the score's like one to eight in favor of the print mags on embargo breakage. Silly General Motors. Of course, maybe its our track record on spotting "oopsies" from the Chevy PR team. – Ray Wert
