9sunset
I had this 2006 Legacy 2.5i since April 2006; never need to use much heat since then. Now with winter is arriving; when I set the fan selector to "floor" only, there is still an excessive amount of hot air coming out from the windshield deforest and the side front vent; and I feel there is not enough hot air going to the feet. Meaning, on a sunny day I have an excessively hot body with cool feet! Service department ordered a new "selector motor" to see if it will correct the problem 9I am going in tomorrow to get it replace; any input from you experts out there? Regards, 9sunset
laz
Try turning on the recirculation button. Air still comes in from outside through the vents in fresh air mode. X ---
9sunset
Let me try it tonight; is that why you are selling your car?
laz
^^^^ lol, no, I have the GF breathing on me too much, that is the reason why I am selling! Actually I need to share a car, and in NYC it is hard to have two cars, and she does not drive stick, plus I am not about to teach her on the legacy. itzed
I have this same problem too and noted it in the, "Silly thing I just noticed....." forum. I hate hot air blowing on my face. I tried the recirculation button but that didn't help at all. Since I have the NA SE with the manual HVAC controls, I have to attribute this to the flaps not closing fully. I might have the dealer look at it but I hate trusting my car to anyone else. Something else will be screwed up with it when I get it back, regardless of whether they fix it or not. 9sunset
Itzed. Very much agree with your feeling; if it doesn't work after replacing the selector motor then thay will have to remove the whole front panel in order to access t the dampers. Is it a wise thing to let them do it? I am worry the car will never be the same. Let's hope that by replacing the selector motor will solve the problem. andaconda
I have this same problem too and noted it in the, "Silly thing I just noticed....." forum. I hate hot air blowing on my face. Did you ever get your problem fixed. I have dual climate control and I too have little air flow to the floor and even less on the passenger side. The side vents don't shut off completely either. I half way freeze going to work in the mornings. I had an 06 Legacy and its heater seemed just fine.
itzed
No, I never had it fixed and I'm just putting up with it. I think it's just the design of the car and it's vents. It's pretty annoying in the winter when my feet are cold. By the time the air gets hot enough to warm them up, it's giving me a headache as it comes up to my head. I think within the next week or two, I'll take mine in and have it checked out. I've had the car only three weeks now and it's my only major gripe (a big one at that.) andaconda
No, I never had it fixed Taking mine in this afternoon -- will post the results.
andaconda
Update: Took it in this afternoon. Dealer agreed that the floor vents had poor air flow. The computer they used said that the servo motors and dampers were operating correctly. They will call Subaru tech support on Monday and see what can be done. Will post back the first part of next week.
andaconda
On my '06 Legacy, I didn't have a problem with the NON dual climate control. It was manual knob that controlled everything. That's something I really miss about it... Its been about zero these past few mornings and my feet are freezing on the way to work.
9sunset
The dealership is hopeless! I even had the Subaru area service manager try out my blower problem; he came back and said his wife's car had the same problem, and it's normal!!!! They also check other cars in the lot and they all doing the same thing so it's must be normal or a factory setting . I cannot understand why they presume if all the cars in the lot are doing the same thing then it must be normal, can it be a design problem that might warrant a recall!!! I was so frustrated that I trade-in that car for a 2007 Forester earlier this year, which is doing fine so far. Sorry guys, good luck!
Vetterin
We had a tread on this same problem going a few weeks ago. The answer is that the vent assy is a bad design which lets very little air out the floor ducts. It's also set-up so that air comes out the side vents and defroster regardless how you set it. It's pretty depressing for sure. Edit: Just found the thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53687
andaconda
Did the dealership let you know what it is yet? Dealer said that tech support has not gotten back to them yet (as of two days ago.) I've been out of town for a couple days and will call them back again after the weekend.
andaconda
Update: Dealer said that Subaru Tech is aware of the problem, and do not have a fix at this time. He said that he opened a "case file" on my car for the problem.
andaconda
Andaconda- I finally got around to bringing my car in - they told me it was just a poor design, and that Subaru tech was not aware of this being an outstanding issue. Did they give you any additional information that I could tell my dealership to show that it is a known problem? Thanks. Sorry. No further word. I've got an old Ford Escort that has a great heater, so I've taken to driving that.
LongHiway
Something going on here. I live in NE, gets plenty cold in the winter, not a problem.
