AFAIK all the 2.5 NA engines now have i-active valve lift, it's just not mentioned on the website. Did you notice the bump this year. 175hp/169tq Legacy, while Impreza and Forrester are still at the 173 hp. So in one way or another, Subaru is not up to date. The differences are subtle but they are different motors. The N/A built legacy products have different intake manifolds and a few other bits and pieces than the Japanese built Impreza/Forester.
