sutter2k
Brake pads! If I were asked what the dominating smell, it would be brake pads. Had a great time this Saturday at my first track day @ Pocono raceway. I was the only legacy there. I would highly recommend other this type of thing to others as a way of learning more about your car and building your own skill. Here is a pic of what the course looked like. http://sutternow.com/pics/lgt/misc/pocono_northcourse.jpg In my first session, it became clear that more power was not needed. Just more braking and more tire grip, and more importantly me learning the track and revising my skill. In the 2nd session, I was able to pick up my speed and nail a series of turns much better. However, I was still not putting everything together. I was passing some cars, but mostly being passed. The 3rd and 4th sessions were in the rain. In these sessions, I was able to string together laps hitting all the turns pretty well except the last one. The less tire grip and cooling effect of the rain actually made me "more" confident in my brakes. Bite was very good. I was able to pick up a lot distance by late braking and carrying a lot of speed after the first/main straight. AWD was very nice in the rain, In these sessions, I was able to pass vettes, mustangs (with full roll cages), a porsche cayman, rx-8, a GTO, miata, a lotus elise(this guy seemed he was very scared), 1 sti(was passed by 2 other sti's though). During several laps I was trailing a supercharged r32, I was able to make distance on him the whole track only to loose it every time in the last turn. It was very slick, and he was able to put the power down there an I was not. I tried all sort or angles and speeds , I just could put the power down in/after that corner(though still much better than the GTO and stang that spun out in front on me). Perhaps limited slip diff in the front and better tires would help here. His grip and zero turbo lag helped a lot in that turn. Here are some pics going around the track. http://gallery.pdadrivingschool.com/largeView.jsp?imgName=2006/20060930_POC_D12B_6857 http://gallery.pdadrivingschool.com/largeView.jsp?imgName=2006/20060930_POC_D12B_6876 http://gallery.pdadrivingschool.com/largeView.jsp?imgName=2006/20060930_POC_D12B_6932 http://gallery.pdadrivingschool.com/largeView.jsp?imgName=2006/20060930_POC_D12B_6953 http://gallery.pdadrivingschool.com/largeView.jsp?imgName=2006/20060930_POC_D12B_7602 http://gallery.pdadrivingschool.com/largeView.jsp?imgName=2006/20060930_POC_D12B_7623
