PA, NJ, NY Area:Any LGT interested in a Pocono Track event/class??

I am thinking about attending the event on last sept. weekend

 

Pocono Raceway, PA

South and North Courses

Friday, September 29th

Saturday, September 30th

Sunday, October 1st

$220 / $245

Basically includes class time, meals and two hours of track time.

I've never done something like this and would like to exercise the car around an open track(not timed wheel to wheel racing). Hoping a couple lgt folks might show up.

 

Seems like we running out of time till next year to do something like this.

Sutter2k, you should come down to Summit Point for a track weekend, it's a lot cheaper with NASA ($300 + $40 annual membership for two-day event) vs. $440 for two-days at Pocono. I think Pocono is just plain expensive and it doesnt give you the thrill as Summit Point would.. Pocono is really just a tri-oval compared to Summit Point and VIR being full-blown road courses.. if you want to do a track day, drive to at least Beaverun or Summit Point as your first track event, it's better than Pocono.

I agree Summit Point has the elevation changes and looks to be more fun. Pocono is using the in-field so its not just oval.

 

However 245.00(one day) is cheaper than 300+40 + a required hotel stay.

 

Either way would membership be worth it since this year is almost over? or does annual membership to to the last time you paid?

 

Does stages carry over between the two? Or will I still be a stage 1 if I go to the other event?

compared to the seat time you get (bang for the buck per minute in the seat), $300 + 40 + $hotel (which you can probably split with friends or other LGT owners, that's what I normally do), is a lot better than $250 for just the day. There's also a larger improvement having 2-days in a row. I did a comparison between autox, drag, and track time, and track is the cheapest by far in terms of $/min of seat time. Drag is first, and then Autox. Granted Autox and Drag have cheap entry fees ($20 to $35), when you compare the amount of seat time you get, they get expensive. If you are comparing entry fees alone, track days will look very expensive by far and everyone would rather just street race since it's free (which is not what we want to promote, that would be a skewed view of things).

 

The membership lasts through one year upon sign up. So if you sign up now, it wont expire until next year.

 

NASA will be providing what is known called a "student passport" which they hope it will be a standard throughout all sorts of clubs and other HDPEs. The passport will be the key for you to be placed correctly into any group and any club event you plan to goto, so that you will get the correct progression of learning.

 

Upon your registration, you can give a brief description of all your track experience, which will position you in the correct group level. Prior to joining NASA, I had plenty of other group experience, so by the time I running with NASA, I was already in their Group 3 and soon after, Group 4 which I am now instructing on a regular basis. I am also using NASA to help get me leverage to help instruct for other clubs (or at least the chance to take the instructor test) such as local Audi Clubs, BMW Club, Mercedes Benz Club, Mazda Drivers Club, etc..

How about tech for the car. Is the alcohol injection an issue?

 

depends how old. Most track policies allow as old as a Snell-Rated M95 helmet or SA95 helmet.. anything older can not be used.

 

As for tech, NASA has a pre-tech form you can use:

As for alcohol injection, that can vary. Track events normally do not allow NOS bottles anyways, so alcohol injection will probably fall under the same type of use. Just disable it or dont use it. You dont need it anyways for a road track day.

Cool, I can always pull the fuse and switch to the regular map.

 

Thanks for the info. I would have rather have gone to your event. However, with a newborn in the house, my escape time is limited.
