Are Subaru engines noisier than most?

subarus are not quiet idlers, you want quiet you'll need to buy a honda or a merc.

 

You should have heard my 2000 Honda Accord 4 cylinder on a cold start. Piston slap so loud you could hear it in the house! Every car on the lot exhibited the same noise.

 

Don't confuse cold engine piston slap with valve train or bottom end noise. Most manufactures don't use skirts on the pistons anymore to reduce friction. When the engine is cold, it slaps around until it warms a bit.

 

As a matter of fact, I had a 1988 Toyota pickup with the 22RE 4cly. That had piston slap from day one.

I was going to say specifically the honda v6s. My previous Acuras would purr in any situation. Only thing i hate about a quiet engine is you can tell the damn thing is running.

Yeah I just got a 2006 LGT and I had a 2001 Impreza L and both make the loud clicking sound. It bothered me for a while too but the engine in my Impreza got me from MD to FL and back no prob so I figured it was fine.

my stock gt is loud.. it also whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiines as you accelerate..

Its seems pretty loud once I turn down the music..
