Well...the car is at 13k miles now. It's been lightly driven, but there are some things that have come up that I really feel itchy about.

The biggest annoyance right now is the tendency for a loud clunk sound every time the brake is applied at a slower speed, such as pulling out of a parking spot, or crawling forward in CALIFORNIA traffic. Anyone know what this is?

Oh yes. Whenever the headlights are turned on, the radio display's LED lights begin to flicker as if it were to the beat of whatever music i was playing. I'm pretty sure this isn't normal...and it only happens when it's playing a CD.

Besides this...has anyone else had the problem where the handles on the inside of the car for the driver door gets 'pushed in' so to speak? It bothers me quite some, since the other side's is fine.

Thanks a ton in advance!

No - is the tranny making this clunk? When I goose it or pop the go pedal it'll clunk which is weird how it holds the gear like that

No - sounds like a loose ground of some kind if it is to the beat of the music

No - haven't seen that thank God

All sounds like warranty...

Come on, guys. I'm sure he knows to go to the dealer. What I'm feelin' from his post is, "Some things that are happening on this car make me wonder about what its future holds."

Your radio flicker problem sounds like an alternator issue since it happens when the lights are turned on. Do you also get a little bit of headlight flicker at night (not related to the music since you've got stock audio)? Check first for loose connections on the grounds and power leads (battery, frame, engine, alternator, etc.). Also get your alt load tested for free at a AutoZone or something. A bad one will take out your battery and vice versa.

Your clunk might be a loose caliper. You can take your tires off and grab the calibers and yank them a few times to see how they feel. This works for other things as well.:icon_bigg

Experience is something you don't get until right after you needed it.

I noticed a loud clunk sometimes when the car has been parked awhile (for a few days) when I try and pull it out of the driveway. It almost sounds like it was stuck to the ground and is trying to unstick. Then we were having a strange knocking sound.. determined it was the endlinks..and suspesion (both aftermarket).. hopefully those issues will be resolved soon. But as far as the loud clunk.. not a clue what it is.

Are you guys sure this "clunk" you're hearing isn't just the Anti-Lock braking system check? That's normal and happens when the car has been switched off and you start it and begin to roll. Almost all cars with AL braking do that. If it only happens once after begin to roll, and then doesn't happen again until the next time you shut it off, then I would suspect that's what it is.

Rattling right speaker, denied by dealer. To be fixed when I upgrade the speakers.

Leaking rear diff, replaced under warranty.

Noise from rear , but that was the new mufflers, which I tightened up.

Headrests too far forward.

Suspension too soft, partially helped by LGT rear bar.

Sunglass box a bit hard to open, not fixed by replacement under warranty.

That's it, I think.

THAT sounds like when the rotors get rusted onto the calipers - happens to me if I park the car in the garage after driving in the rain or immediately after washing the car. Happens more often on the Miata, but it's no big deal as you 'clean' the rotors very effectively during normal driving!

txkid - can you describe this a little better, or take some pix? Kinda sound like a problem I had, that the dealer was happy to replace under warranty for me.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood.

In other words: SEARCH before you post!

there's a slight clunk from the tranny/center diff when getting going after i haven't driven the car in a while (such as overnight). its done that since I got it, apparently its the center diff getting going as i was told. haven't had any of the other problems you mentioned. although, the matte finish on the door pull handle is coming off.

I agree with Scooter about the clunk after starting the car after it sits for a while (usually a few days): it's some rust that breaks loose. My Toyota did that often.

The other possibility is that you have a loose wheel. Go around to each wheel, grab it at ten and two, and shake like a madman.

Yeaaa..I'd take them to a dealership, but the one I trust has like a 2 week wait list on appointments. Do they have to see identification before they begin their warranty work? I ask only because I'm not the owner of this car, my dad is.

is the car an auto or a manual ? the autos will click the shift lock solenoid at about 6mph so you can't throw the car in reverse while moving

it's an auto (parents' choice, family car) but i kinda doubt it's the shift lock thing...but I don't know..

It shouldn't be what scooter mentioned; this car is a daily driver, especially after my dad recently blew up his 97 ford escort. (engine overheat)

for all these problems...how would you approach the dealership? I've never gone to a dealership for warranty work, and I honestly and quite frankly don't know how it works over there. What do I say to get the right message across? How do I prevent them from taking advantage of me as mechanics?

I am young, forgive my youth. thanks again, everyone :)

It's strange...both lefts are messed up, and both rights are fine!

I just got my 05 2.5i last week...its got 16k on it, i've noticed a slight clunk but only when the car has been sitting overnight. Otherwise it seems to be holding up pretty well. The silver trim around the window and lock controls on the driver side door is peeling or flaking off though...so it has some black spots in it.
