Speedracerx
As I'm getting ready to install my header and turboback, I just thought I 'd pass on what I've learned from my WRX. At 70,000+ miles, I found axle grease was seeping from the passenger side CV boot at the axle seal (the boot was intact). It was very "runny", more oil-like than grease-like. In thinking back and talking to other WRX owners with similar experiences, we came to the conclusion that this was due to the intense heat given off by the now unshielded downpipe, radiating directly on the CV joint area. While some had seepage, others had torn boots, but In all cases, the driver's side CV was perfect. I put on 25k miles per year, so it's not going to take too long to rack up the miles. So, I am making a simple aluminum heat shield to block the heat from the CV area. Probably bolt onto the subframe and curve around the axle. If you have an aftermarket DP and drive a lot, at least you may want to keep an eye on the passenger side boot for heat stress.
