Hey all. Looking to possibly replace my shift knob on my 5EAT. Not looking for the Subaru Momo one. Can I put a normal 5/6 speed shift knob on it? Are the threads anything special? Anyone done anything similar? Thanks!

I got the Momo Sphere knob. It looks even better in person, matches the interior perfectly. I also love that it makes the knob shorter, so it's easier to shift with your fingers, while your hand is resting on the e-brake. That Momo Sphere looks great. Nice choice. Is that knob a screw-on or does it use set screws with a adapter? How easy is the stock one to get off? I was thinking an old school look myself: I know the ball is a 4 speed, but I love that look.

For good tight fitting...cut the end off the rubber adapter so that it slides over the shifter threads. Then..with the next closest size...cut the end off and place it where the set screws are and tighten. It is very snug.

Then again... Might be worth it.. And there is a hack saw sitting just a few feet away..

Pop on a 12mm bolt (I think??) onto the shaft and thread it down...cut off what you want and then take the bolt off. Unthreading the bolt will help preserve the threads you cut.

I forgot about putting the nut on first. Glad I read that before cutting.

If you are interested in doing the Hurst white ball. I have one that I used in my '97 Outback. I dremeled out the stok threads in the brass insert and 'threaded' it with the steel shifter shaft. Personally, a correctly threaded one is easier and better. After the Hurst I had a Kartboy which was great since it threads down super low.
