Slaab 9-3 Aero vs. LGT

Recommended Posts

Anybody considered or driven the 2.8T Slaab 9-3 Aero? Opinions?

My friend has a 2.0T and it's OK just not great. If only it had 4WD.

Actually yes. I considered purchasing a 2005 9-3 aero before the LGT. Before driving the LGT, I was only mildly impressed by the performance of the saab. Handling, acceleration, and 60 to 80 speeds on the test drive were also a little disappointing. Even the interior was very bland and boring. Though with this all said, I still priced on up an gave it a consideration; that is until I went across the street to the Subaru dealer and noticed the new 06' Black Legacy GT just staring at me.... and we fell in love.

Was the 2005 the 2.0T version or the newer 2.8T that you drove?

The 2.8T is their new engine, available on the 93 SportCombi and sedan...

2.8 Litres HFV6 V6, turbo, 250 hp ECE (184 kW)!!!!!

So you basically have .3l bigger engine, 2 cylinders more for the same horsepower....

05 Aero's came with a 2.0T with 210hp. 06 Have a 2.8V6 HPT with similar numbers to the LGT. I test drove a sport comby (hatchback) and found that car very capable of outrunning the LGT on the highway but the car is faily slow from a standstill, suffering from both torque steer and plenty of wheelspin when launched hard.

Cabin is comparable imo. The subaru has a more standard layout the Saab is clearly Swedish Ikea like. It's more of a love it or hate it type of thing. I briefly owned a saab but got rid of it because it was a rattle trap, starting at 1200 miles everything came loose; window switches, sunroof, seats including seat belt pretensioners:( . My legacy test drive (24hr) involved a dealer demo with 6K on the clock and it felt very solid. Both cars Use OK materials some cheap plastic and leather surfaces but are very comfortable. I can see the Saab being better suited for long trips. The seats are amazing on Swedish cars the best on the market imho.

Lease the Saab/Buy the Subaru.
