Navigation Calculates Weird Routes in NY

Hey guys.

I took my Spec.B on it's maiden highway voyage last night from NYC to Peekskill. Though I know the way to the Taconic more or less, I decided (unfortunately) to follow the NAVI directions to see what it was like.

First: To get from North-West Queens to I-87, it took me through Manhattan (59th st Bridge> FDR> 207st)! Really weird. I was really close to the Triboro Bridge. Really strange. It also would have been faster to go my normal cheap-ass route over the Willis Ave bridge. Go figure.

Next, up in the Mamaroneck area I think, it had me spend like 15 minutes going through local roads to get to the Sprain Parkway! Even weirder.

I guess I'll keep playing with it or rely on my otherwise infinate wisdom of known routes around NYC. I thought this thing would have been more intuitive.

Thanks.

Yeah. It has similar options. I just haven't had a chance to play with anything other than the defaults.

I'll keep messing with it and see what happens.

I live in Northern NJ and also find the navigation gives me weird routes. I've had other navigation systems in the past. Infiniti, Nissan, and a Pioneer AVIC-N1, and the routes were not as bad as the routes genereated by the navigation in my Spec.B.

I figured as much.

Hey, which # Spec.B do you have? Have you mod'd it at all?

The Subie Nav is pretty low on the scale of navs these days. My mom's BMW nav blows away the subie nav. a lot of locations aren't even in the subies database. It never gives the quickest route no matter how you route it through the nav...the learning curve on it is huge. my mom's 5 series is so easy to use, i have yet to even have a hickup with it. you can also program it as you drive. the alpine blackbird nav in my car works awesome, again simple and straightforward. The garmin Nuvi portable nav we sell here in ramsey is amazing and easy too....honestly...the subie nav sucks....my dad's loaded outback xt has the nav, he's into electronics, and hates it so much he never uses it...he leaves it on the screen that shows mpg and throttle position and whatnot.

subaru, time to wake up and get a better nav!

That's exactly what I've been doing.

sup man.. I'm a friend of someone that works in your shop.. His name is Shorty.

Anyway, I would opt for aftermarket navigation, but I don't want to have to have two radios in my car.
