BOXRPWR
Had a fantastic trackday on Sat. at Spring Mountain Raceway in Nevada. Its located about 45 miles outside Las Vegas in Pharump, NV. It was my first time at Spring Mtn. Its a very nice track less than 2 years old. The owners have plans to turn it into a countryclub / resort type place for racecar enthusiasts. There will be condos, a golf course, private garages, a helipad, towers to view the racing, and something really cool - built-in video cameras all around the track to record the excitement. The track event was sponsored by www.speedventures.com They held a very professional event. I highly recommend them. The $190 daily fee included rental of a transponder to capture lap times. They post them on-line but I just checked and they aren't up yet. My lap times started right at the 4:00 minute mark. Of course, I hadn't driven the course before so it took more than one session before I could learn the track line. I was pleased to see that almost without exception, every lap of every session was a better time. I ended the day in the sub 3:40 sec range. Several really fast cars were running in the 3:20 sec range. The track is 3.5 miles long in full-track mode with 18 turns. My top speed was 110 mph between turns 15 & 16. Could hold +90 mph thru turn 3R. BOXRPWR
Looks like fun. I know where I will retire now. Where there problems with sand on the track? no sand problems at all it just blows away. they do have a Desert Tortoise (endangered species) problem however. if a driver sees a tortoise on the course he must inform the nearest flag person. they red flag the course and send somebody out to safely move it off the track. if you purposefully hit & kill one its a $10,000 fine and possible 6-mo. jail time.
