SubieRU
Bu11Dogg2, The hood of my subie was painted after an accident. 2 months after I washed it with a brush at a car wash. Apparently, the brush had a lot of old dirt particles, so it scratched the upper layer of the hood's paint pretty badly, which is now mostly visible under a direct sunlight. Do you think Meguire Scratch X will help to remove those scratches? thanks.
BDII
As long as there not primer deep, than yes. It works awesome on the fingernail scratches on your door handles too. I use it religiously. I will PM the resident paint specialist, (OCDetails) and have him post in here some good solutions to your problems. Need forum help? OCDetails
I use ScratchX on a regular basis. It is what I use to remove rust stains for the most part, but it is also very effective at removing paint swap. ScratchX is pretty high on the scale of abrasives. On a scale of 1 to 10 it is probably a 9 or 10. The problem with using a product like that is while it may remove scratches, it also leaves behind a haze of lots of little scratches that require a finer polish to remove. Scratches from a car wash brush are not the sort of thing that ScratchX was designed to be used for. Scratches under the door handle, on the other hand, are what they are meant for. Individual scratches caused from someone rubbing against your car with a bag or something can be worked on, but not lots of lateral scratches. If you are seeing swirls then you need to use a polisher to remove the damage. That is what the Porter Cable 7424 is for. It is much more efficent at removing damage than working by hand. If you have scratches on the edge of your hood from a car wash brush, then my guess is that you have scratches everywhere else you used the brush. ScratchX was not intended to be used by hand on your entire car. It should be used on isolated areas where you can see the scratch but can't feel it with your fingernail. Once you can feel it you know it has gone through the paint and will need to be touched up. As long as it is a stain on the surface or just a light scratch in the clear coat then ScratchX is a great product to remove the damage. As far as the NuFinish product goes... I haven't used that yet. ScratchX has always done what I needed it to do and I haven't had a need to explore other product in that area. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S .
