Short circuit in stock radio/climatronic display

I searched but didn't find anything on this, if I didn't search hard enough or for the right combination I apologize.

A few weeks ago I noticed that occaisonally the radio display would be a little bit dim at the edges. If I turned the volume up or down it would brighten up. This didn't happen all the time, or follow any consistent pattern. Not a big deal I'll have them look at it when I take it in for service.

Also noticed a couple of times that the climatronic display would flicker on and off for a few minutes. Again didn't happen consistently, check it out when I take the car in.

On Monday, the radio display went completely blank. Followed on Tuesday with the climatronic display going blank as well. Got an appointment to have it looked at this morning. Service person says we'll take a quick look at it, but we'll most likely have to order a new unit. Half our later she walks out into the waiting room to tell me that there is a short circuit in the display(s) and that they've ordered a new unit. It should be here next week, takes an hour to install, we'll get you a shuttle or a loaner car for the day, we'll let you know when it comes in. Alright, fine sounds good.

Before leaving I ask if this is a common thing to happen. "Oh yeah, I've seen at least 30."

Has this happened to anyone on here?

Sorry for the long(ish) post.
