Deer Killer
Disguarded laptop (pII 233), gps receiver, and power inverter. No rerouting delays like I hear about from in-dash nav's. It would be nice to have the map in front of me, but doesn't really matter with audio directions does it? Maybe I can salvage a smaller lcd screen if I look around enough... or this http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=205-014 Total cost so far, $110. Oh and btw, my speedo is ~1-2 mph slow, at least around the 30's.. GPS rules

agctr
Yes have to agree that what you have done there is a great way of getting GPS and pretty straight forward. The software is pretty cheap, its the hardware where they get you.... as everyone knows. Adam.

apexjapan2
Nice, but it is also the first nav system i've seen that could end up being a shattering experience if you use those new, whiz bang brakes fully :D Still, a good way to get Nav if you don'T have to pay the big bux for it! agctr
Yes have to agree, you might have to strap that baby in as well. Adam.
Deer Killer
Yeah I noticed that :) If I get a lcd screen that won't be an issue anymore. For now I'm just driving like a "normal" person while using it :)
agctr
Just put it in the front seat wheel well, and put some things around it, that should stop it moving around a bit, but yeah, be careful. Adam.
kanoswrx
Also if you want something a little more portable, you could probably find a cheap used PPC, like a 200 or 300 mhz model, or even buy one of the newer low end models for around 200 bucks. Then you can buy a package from TomTom with the GPS reciever and software for another 200.
Legacy_Fan
Where do you put the GPS reciever. Post another picture of the dash and the wires please.
