godwhomismike
My friend's 91 Legacy is in the shop, and they are telling her that it needs a new transmission. Personally, I'm not a mechanic, but I have driven this car a few times this summer for a few hours and nothing stuck me as odd with the transmission. The only thing this car does is have a habit of stalling from what she tells me, especially after it rains a lot. They're telling her it's the tranny, I'm having a hard time believing that. What do you guys think? I'll get more information later, but as of now that's all I believe it is doing is stalling. - Mike
SUBE555
Take it to another shop. Get a second opinion.
evolutionmovement
It could be stalling if the converter is not unlocking. Definitely get another opinion, especially a transmission specialist. If you know a mechanic that you trust you could ask for a recommendation. From your description of the symptoms, though, it sounds like it could just be a dirty Idle Air Control valve (box to the left of the throttle body if looking from the front) - it's an easy clean with brake cleaner or the like. Of course, plugs, wires, and filters should be serviced. Before I went to Magnecors I used a set of wires every year and a half or so.
