Off - road

Recommended Posts

Probably repost. Couldn't find the original. What kind of off - road ability does the new Leggy have? 5.9" sedan and 6.1" wagon clearance. What does my '98 OB Wagon have in that department? Thanks for your thoughts on this subject. (or link to another thread :P ) Jeff

My old GT had seen limited offroad excursions, one RallyX (fairly smooth surface), but I have no desire to take the new one offroad. Purely a tarmac machine, and what a machine it is. :) OB will automatically fair better if ruts and such get involved. If you plan on hitting the rough stuff, then look at an OB. If you plan on staying on relatively smooth surfaces, the Leggy is a perfect specimen.

If you want a car to go off road with try the OB 3.0R sedan -loads of ground clearence - looks like it is built to have the shit kicked out of it and will come back for more. If it came with a black leather interior and the 2.5L Turbo engine - I would be all over it in a heart beat. It comes with a n/a 3.0L V6, and taupe leather interior. - Mike

You'd actually be amazed at the places a regular old generic rwd or fwd vehicle CAN go if you know what you're doing, and the LGT would probably do even better w/ the awd. That having been said, although I took an old escort and even my mustang some places in their days where people gaped/gawked, if I am planning off road excursions these days I take my truck. My advice--get your nice new car, and an old beater truck or suv that you don't mind banging or scratching up...

What is the difference between a "180 deg V", or "flat" to a "horizontally opposed", or "boxer" engine? Pistons are attached at opposite sides of the crankshaft in all cases, correct? Where can I find/how do I measure the ground clearance of my '98 Outback? Thanks for all the replies.

I took a legacy gt down a gravel road during my test drive, nothing hard, but a few acceleartion tests and a few turns. It was very stable, no sliding around, but it deffinetly will if you want it to. It should handle pretty much just like a WRX, seeing how I think it uses the same drive train, with maybe a few slight changes made for the length.
