My 05 LGT "Rally" Build

Recommended Posts

Hi yall! just joined this forum after buying a GT limited wagon with a 5 speed manual, and thought I would make a thread for this build to keep track of mods and things.

I bought this car a couple months ago with plenty of modifications already done, including a top end rebuild by subietech HQ in Bend OR, koyorad radiator, upgraded turbo, catch can, exedy clutch/pressure plate, Whiteline sway bars, cobb exhaust and short shifter, and too many other little details to list. According to the previous owner it currently makes around 280 WHP.

I'm guessing most people, particularly on this forum, would probably use this car as a fun daily or a mild street build. However, given I live in Montana and my previous rig was a gen 2 Montero, I wanted to create a mildly capable Rally inspired legacy that could handle most forest roads and also be fun to drive on roadtrips and the like. And the reason I chose a legacy to do this instead of an OBXT is A) I wanted a car that still felt relatively sporty and not like a barge around town, and B) I like the look of the Legacy's more without the plastic cladding.

So far, I've installed Primitive racing skid-plates for the front of the car and the rear diff, as well as 3/4" F 1" R Primitive strut tower spacers to get a little extra height, combined with KYB Outback struts with Legacy springs (to mitigate body roll) in order to raise the spring perches enough to clear the 235/55R17 Falken Wildpeak tires I'm running. Additionally I've done some regular maintenance including injectors to get rid of a misfire, all fluids and filters, along with some Rally armor mud flaps and a couple other odds and ends. Past that, there's plenty more parts and updates to come. Lmk what you guys think!

Cool car , I'm doing something similar, not really rally but just how a Subaru was meant to me used.

My advise ...new struts, and bushings everywhere.

If you are planning and dirt's roads go with OEM and not something similar.

I did kyb OEM struts , original springs, 1/2 Saggy but spacer , and it handles dirt and gravel well.

Honestly not a whole lot else to add except for maybe some more armor underneath, at least a diff plate

Some new updates from the last month!

In addition to all the mods listed above, I installed a rally innovations bash bar (which requires a small notch on either side of the primitive racing skid plate) and some sweet Baja designs squadrons that I spliced into the fog light harness to give some extra light. I like the look of it too, very rally-esc. I also made some custom aluminum fender guards that free up a little more room in the front wheel wells, which not only gave more space for the tires but also adds a nice bit of protection over the OEM plastic guards. And finally, I installed some new mevotech front lower control arms with poly bushings to replace the completely blown our old stuff.

The car also got its first good shakedown with a week long trip to Moab. We got it up some pretty techy stuff, especially considering the stage two clutch! So far I have been very pleased with how this build is coming along!
