2007 subaru legacy gt 2.0t reliability

Recommended Posts

hello all, i have just made an account to be able to post on the website as i have found a lot of posts on this forum to be very useful but was unable to find a forum post that specifically answered my query, and that query is it an unreasonable expectation for my legacy gt to be close to full bolt on and be reliable enough to be a daily? i ask this as the more and more i change out parts on my legacy the less and less reliable it seems to get. I have recently swapped out the stock top mount for a front mount and it has been going through a lot of turbos...about 1 every 1-3 months, its broken again and im sending it off now for it to get replaced and have a retune, in your opinion is it worth it to keep the legacy and stick out the problems or are the root of the problems my mods and is it unrealistic to try and daily a modified subaru. i will have a parts list down below to help you guys get a bit better of an idea what my car is like and what is has on it, additionally if you have any suggestions to improve reliability im interested in your suggestion

2.0T is not USDM model, so not too many people will be able to tell you from experience. That said, a lot of people here daily their modified Legacies and Outbacks for many years with proper care.

In general if you are going through a turbo every 1-3 months you probably better of either returning your Spec B to stock or getting a different car altogether.

the jdm 2.0 liter is essentially the same as the usdm 2.5. subaru only increased the displacement for the american market because we are accustomed to higher low end torque.

stock turbos are very reliable on either engine. don't know if he's getting rebuilt turbo every month, or brand new. I would start with oil/oil pressure issues. there is no reason turbos should be failing in a month unless they are very VERY poorly rebuilt or they just have no oil.

also is your BOV set for recirculate or vent to atmosphere? it should be installed with the recirculating kit for the legacy.

If you had a turbo "blow" then it likely sent pieces of metal throughout the oiling system. Unless the block is cleaned out extremely well and the oil cooler replaced, it's likely to keep circulating those pieces of metal and will continue to eat new turbos. Some people have been able to clean out a block well enough, many have needed to get a new short block to fix it completely.
