Climate Control unit Stopped Working

Recommended Posts

2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i premium

After my radio upgrade I noticed that my climate control unit does not function, the control on the left that controls fan speed still works but everything to the right of that does not. Unit still gets backlight, and everything else works except for a tpms sensor (should be an unrelated issue though)

What I've tried:

-checking fuses

-putting in a new climate control unit

-putting in the original radio

So, I found out the issue to my problem. It was a fuse however it was the ig2 fuse #4 (7.5amp mini low profile fuse) inside the vehicle. So all the symptoms included

-climate control did not work however the fan speed could be changed

-tpms blinked for about 30sec then stayed solid

-cruise control would not work

-obd2 scanner would not produce a code

Ok so I’ve been running around reading pages and pages of post about cruise control not wiki g… well my issue is that mine work but only up to 60mph then it will disengage and or not engage at all. I took it to a Autoshop and hey said they didn’t see a issue with it, but then again they didn’t want to do any other work on I since I had aftermarket parts on it. Lazy bastards. I guess I’ll take it to the Subaru dealership for a diagnostic test. But I was hopeful I could get some wisdom from y’all.

There are a multitude of reasons cruise control might stop working, you really aren't giving us much to work with in terms of information. When did this start? What aftermarket parts are on the car? Do you get any flashing/blinking lights? Is there anything else not working properly? What have you tried so far?

I wouldn't bash anyone who didn't want to work on someone else's problem especially when they don't have the vehicle's history. They would literally be taking on liability for a whole host of unknowns that aren't an issue on a completely stock vehicle, take the time to see it from their perspective.

OK let me say that I have checked the plug under the clutch, and the the break pedal, I have changed the fuses, and cruise control relays, and I was hoping it was the neutral switch, except that the cruise control work up to 60mph. There are no warning lights on as I can see. And as for the Autoshop, I asked for them to do a diagnostic off my ABS system to see if I have any codes, and to do a tune up, i.e. spark plugs, belts, and house, as I already did the oil, differential fluids breaks, new tires, alinement, and new shocks and struts. The only after market parts are, headlights, short throw shifter, shocks, struts, and stereo, window tint, a '08 steering wheel, and wired a amp and sub. The shop did say that they didn't;'t see anything wrong with the cruise control system, but from what I could see , from standing outside smoking for the last 30 min of my stay there, was it was on a lift and no one was touching my car except to drop it off the lift. So I do you they didnt run a diagnostic test as they didn't charge me a penny, just a hour's worth of my time. Edited by cajunAsian

The neutral switch itself works, but the plastic pin wears out. As a result, the contact is interrupted at a certain load (speed). You can compensate for this with a thinner copper washer. Simple solution that can solve your problem described with the cruise control.

I just replaced the whole switch, as mine was looking a little beat up and it wasn't to expensive to replace, and took like 20 min's to do the whole operation, getting all four tires off the ground, as I was also trying to replace the energy suppression bushing... (which didn't happen). The bolts to it where seed with rust and after a day of soaking in rust penetration, still didn't budge. So I'm thinking of just cutting off the bolt heads and extracting the rest of the bolt. But good news is that the cruise control work and I haven't had a issue with it . Thanks for the info guys. saved me some cash. Edited by cajunAsian
