Mrlantra
To anyone with a 4eat JDM legacy ( 00 to 03 ) what type of tranny fluid is best to use for hot clims? The manual ( in japanese ) says dextron III but the dealer purt the dot3+ in my moms car, and mine ( both are 2001 legacy wagons, hers is a tx mine is a gt ) is in the shop and I'm wondering if this was a safe thing to do. mccorry
Any good synthetic tranny fluid (of proper grade) would work. If you are in a hot climate, I would recommend adding a transmission cooler to the system for longevity of the transmission.
Mrlantra
I am adding a cooler with the fluid change, but it's the fluid grade I'm trying to find, just a bit confused between the newer cvt fluids and the dextron III etc. and I can't read japanese lol! ig anyone has a USA 4eat can tell me the reccomended fluids and grades, I've looked on the web but the gradings are differen than what is available here. mach_six
I didn't know there was grading for Dexron III. I would think you can just go to any auto parts store and buy Dexron III or Mercon-Dexron III as it is commonly labeled here. DOT 3 sounds to me like brake fluid grading. stanjk3
DOT3 or DOT4 is brake fluid. I've never seen different types if D-M III, though there is a newer D-M IV. The power steering on my Legacy uses D-M III. When they told me that at Pep Boys I was wondering "what the hell is this guy smoking??" The I checked the manual, learned something new that day.
