Overboosting big time spec.b

Recommended Posts

Hello

Recently having a big problem with overboosting. 2008 spec.b reaching 21+ without any problems. Car's pulling like crazy but.... Already got 3x code P0244 (overboosting). Now a brief history of the last 3 weeks. A few weeks ago I started fixing a few issues (new MAF, checking & fixing minor boost leaks). Car started running much better & decided to install COBB's AP with stage 1 maps. No problems boost OK (boosting about 15) but in the meantime I noticed that turbo inlet hose (the big one) was really bad shape when it connected to the turbo. Dealership put the new one (the old was just bad with an inch tear by the end). Got the car back & it run great (to say the least) but I noticed that it overboosted when WOT and even with less. Got code 244 and back to the dealersip. They spent on the car 1/2 day did find some BS a couple wrong hoses & they said trhey FIX it. Yeah right. Went for a ride and two more codes 244. I unmaried AP & loaded stock map. The same thing. Today we went through all the connections all seem to be OK, checked Wetgate Solenoid (getting power & tested good with battery - clicking). Kind of lost right now. Did they screw the install & something that I can't see? Is it possible that my Westgate Actuator went bad and is stuck closed? Any suggestions will be appreciated - car's giong back to the dealership on Mon a.m. but I would like to know what's happening?

I've had a similar situation when one of the boost control lines blew off of the turbo. How do your fuel trims look?

All lines around turbo look OK. As for fuel trims can't do much logging right now since I switched to stock map yesterday and trying to keep this error 244 in ECU for the guys at the dealership to see. BTW car runs great no compalints unless i go WOT.

Can you log your WGDC in the AP? How is the shape of your boost c ontrol solenoid? Do you have an aftermarket intake/downpipe? Some overboosting can be expected as the weather gets colder too.

No I can't because I take my car to the dealer & they have to see this code.

After that if they don't fix it then yes I ca do that. I'm totally stock! And I have never experience anything like that and actually I had never had any error codes in those 12 years that I've owned my car. My understanding is that it has to be some major thing to cause boost go from 15 to 22! I don't see just some boost leak to cause that. This is some little log BEFORE those trouble started.

Did they replace the lines to the waste gate and forget to put a boost pill in or crack the tee fitting?

No they didn’t. It’s hard to tell if they damaged the fitting as the tee looks kind of tired. I squeezed the little hose and I think I can feel the pill? PerhAps would be a good idea to tell them to replace the whole ‘T’ and the pill.

The pill increases boost, doesn't lower it. So if it was missing your boost would be low. I am guessing as long as the ebcs is functional and the line from the turbo T to the bcs is good, you either have a bad actuator (can apply pressure to verify function, or a stuck wastegate arm.)

You can rule out the electronics by capping the line off that goes to the ebcs (this would run all of the pressure from the turbo to the actuator, should be about 8 psi if the actuator or wastegate is functional)

Thanks. That's a great suggestions. If they unable to solve the problem tommorow I'll get on it & try to solve this myself.
