NEED HELP 2009 Legacy

Recommended Posts

I am having an issue with my 2009 Legacy without the turbo. It has 206k on it and runs great and tranny shifts very well. The issue I am having is that whenever I’m driving and any speed or gear and I like “tap” the throttle the whole car will start to slow down and the RPMs will go way up into the 4K range and the car will downshift a gear and then after 2-3 seconds the car will upshift again and the RPMs will go back to normal and everything is fine but the weird thing if I put the car into Sport mode and “tap” the throttle like before everything is fine I don’t know what it could be any help, is appreciated!

After reading the service manual, it sounds like that's normal. So basically the car downshifts when you tap the throttle? The car thinks you want to quickly accelerate, so it downshifts to give you better acceleration. Then the car realizes hey, the throttle was only tapped, we can go back into a normal gear and drive like we normally would.

When in sport mode, the car is probably already in a lower, more acceleration ready gear, so it doesn't have to downshift like in normal mode.

I don't know, those are my thoughts at least.
