cleaning dirt/leaves etc behind mudguards?

Hello all and Happy New Year,

 

I just wanted to ask if anyone had chance to look behind the fender plastic liner to see if there is dirt accumulating at all. From experience with some GM and VW cars dirt and old dried leaves would accumulate behind the front mud flaps inside between the fender plastic liner and fenders and would remain wet causing rust in that area. So I wonder if we need to remove once a year lower part of the liner and clean behind it.
