mastodonrider
1997 Legacy L sedan 235,000 miles, 2nd owner for 14 years now Friday Dec.13, driving to work, downshift to second for a turn and car slips out of second gear but the shifter didn't pop into neutral position. So I go to neutral and try to grab second again, shifts fine but just revs, no power to wheels. Coast into parking lot with remaining momentum. Car shifts gears with no problem, it even shifts WITHOUT the clutch pedal depressed. Clutch pedal feels good though, and there's been no clutch slippage or anything odd lately. Call up a flatbed, get it back home. Shift linkage is connected all the way down (worn bushings but not that bad, I can still find gears easily). Still feels like it's grabbing all gears but it can now shift with or without clutch, doesn't stall off throttle (idles perfectly) or accelerate on throttle (just revs to the moon). Essentially stuck in neutral now. I'm okay with motors but I'm completely useless with transmissions. My best guess is between shift linkage inside transmission to the shift forks. Any ideas? Thanks everybody!!!
