AndrewW
Were these optional? My new 2.0 2006 legacy had none and this would seem to be the result. The tensioner bolt wasn't particularly loose but loose enough for the inner face to wear one side into the washer.
Infosecdad
Those guides were usually only on the engine with manual transmissions. If you have an auto, I wouldn't expect to find one; if you have a manual transmissions, pretty sure it's missing. I don't think having one could have had any impact on what your tensioner was doing. Hopefully you caught it before any major damage was done. What part of the world are you located in?
AndrewW
hi Infosecdad, yes it's an auto so thanks for that, I'm in New Zealand. The car has 118,000km and the belt appears to have been replaced, I'm not sure about the tensioner with that wear. Hopefully a kit and proper torque will sort it. AndrewW
I put a belt kit in it but unfortunately it seems to have bent a valve. In desperation I retimed it and this time the tensioner bolt stripped with little torque, glad I found it, it torqued to 30ftlb first time. Another upside was meeting a 74 yr old former F1 mechanic in the little local country town who heli-coiled it while I waited and refused payment.
