SeriousScoob
Had my front CV axles done on my 08 SE NA w/5EAT - Do the castle nuts at the end of the axles have to be bent/punched into the two little depressions on the end of the axles themselves? Mech said no bc something about tapers or flanges, can't remember which right now...
ArmyVetMP
I always knew it that Yes, they need to be. It is a preventative measure to keep the Castle Nut/Axle Nut from coming loose with vibrations and bumps and such. I had to change out my Hub on my 2010 Legacy (Bearings went bad), and I dented it into that depression. I would at the very least for the added security of keeping that nut secure and tight on the Axle.
whitexc
Referred to as "staking" the nut, yes it should be done but doesn't have to be. You could always use some blue/medium loctite if you plan to remove the nut at some point in the future.
