Rely18
I am changing my oil now, this is my second change... first one was free at 1000 miles so I had the dealer do it. Anyways, I can't get the oil filter off... it isn't slippery, I just can't torque it. Seems like they put it on too tight, I have never had problems like this with previous cars. Any ideas? Also, how far should I turn the new one when tightening it, after it touches? Not as tight as they did, for sure.
meier motor sports
1/4 to half a turn past where the rubber seal contacts. its fairly easy. tighten it by hand only and u dont have to be a gorrrila to do it. use an oil filter wrench to get the old one off. its gona be way tighter then when it started due to heat cycling and other random factors
Rely18
Thanks. If I had a wrench I would use it... but now I just have a car with no oil in it and no wrench!
meier motor sports
try to jam a crew driver through the filterand use the leverage of the screwdriver to unscrew the filter and oil the gasket when u put the new one on. no oil will make it damn near impossible to get off

meier motor sports
A: REMOVAL 1) Lift-up the vehicle. 2) Remove the under cover. 3) Remove the oil filter using STs. ST 18332AA000 OIL FILTER WRENCH (Outer diameter: 68 mm (2.68 in)) ST 18332AA010 OIL FILTER WRENCH (Outer diameter: 65 mm (2.56 in)) NOTE: Standard oil filter is outer diameter of 68 mm (2.68 in). However, SUBARU genuine oil filter having outer diameter of 65 mm (2.56 in) can also be used. B: INSTALLATION 1) Clean the oil filter installation surface on cylinder block or oil cooler. 2) Obtain a new oil filter and apply a thin coat of engine oil to seal rubber. 3) Install the oil filter, turning it by hand, being careful not to damage seal rubber. 4) Tighten more after the seal rubber contacts oil cooler. NOTE: • In case of oil filter in diameter 68 mm (2.68 in), tighten by approx. one turn. • In case of oil filter in diameter 65 mm (2.56 in), tighten by approx. 2/3 to 3/4 turn. • Over-tightening may cause oil leak. 5) Install the under cover. 6) Lower the vehicle. C: INSPECTION 1) After installing the oil filter, run the engine and make sure that no oil is leaking around seal rubber. NOTE: The filter element and filter case are permanently jointed; therefore, interior cleaning is not necessary. 2) Check the engine oil level. <Ref. to LU(H4DOTC)-9, INSPECTION, Engine Oil.>
Rely18
I asked the neighbor if I could borrow her truck to go to AutoZone... got a 70mm wrench b/c they were all out of the small size (just my luck) but it worked. I was kinda wary about jamming a screw driver through the old filter so I opted to ask my neighbor for the favor. She's hot too so that was a bone-us... Thanks for your help and suggestions!
