STurn
Having driven standard shift cars for most of the last 20 years, I've found the CVT in my Legacy to be to perfect opposite. If I wanted to shift gears, I would be. The smoothness of the CVT is better than a traditional auto and the ability to get to high revs without jarring shifts seemed bizzare when I first drove it. Now I find myself accelerating up hills, feeling the car build revs and speed seamlessly. It is definitely different.
ncted
I would actually be happy to choose turning off the "shift points" for normal driving. (Would probably drive like an electric). ;-) After driving a Prius for 4 years, I appreciate the faux shift points. Perhaps if I grew up driving a CVT or had only ever driven boats, it would be the opposite. The CVT in my Legacy helps make me feel connected to what the car is doing in a way the Prius CVT never did, even if it is faking it. Is that absolutely necessary? No. It is just a preference.
