WDS55
2000 Legacy 5 speed manual needs a new cv axle. I was going to change the differential oil seal while I'm in there however I'm not sure how it is seated. The axle output shaft extends beyond the differential and the axle is secured to it by a roll pin so does the seal go over it and is seated within or do I have to remove the retainer thing that looks like a pain? RustyRuu
year of car? your talking about the front diff? (mentioned roll pin) if its not leaking don't do it in my opinion, Since there are two seals to replace anyway if you do. yes the whole "retainer thing" needs to come off. the one that looks like it pulls out does not it needs to be pushed out after removal of retainer thing. and its also a preload adjustment you need to mark where its at count the number of times you rotate it then mark where the threads start/stop, so you are correct it is a pain. ignore the axle removal because we have a different type of axle, and our retaining ring is a bit simpler, but this guy goes over how not to fubar this job.
