waldguy
I'm having my first issue after three years. This evening I noticed a burning smell - smoke or rubber or plastic or something. I opened the hood and could see smoke coming from the front of the engine area, using a flashlight. The source wasn't easy to discern. I've had no recent spills or oil changes done. I and my friend will have a better look tomorrow, but any tips on how to go about it would be helpful. I suspect it might be timing chain cover, but I really can't say. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/engine-leak-250849.html
SubieN8
Have your timing chain cover gasket checked. My 2015 was leaking onto the exhaust manifold, at 7,500 miles.
waldguy
I felt underneath the timing chain cover -- wet oil. Off to the dealership.
waldguy
Have your timing chain cover gasket checked. My 2015 was leaking onto the exhaust manifold, at 7,500 miles. Did the dealer tell you what the source of the oil was? A particular seal? Where is the source of the oil inside the cover? Just curious TIA
SubieN8
It leaked from the bottom seal, this I know. I just saw it apart on the lift and he showed me, but I don't recall where it comes from internally. Sorry.
waldguy
All fixed. The front crank seal had to be replaced. Two thumbs up for the dealer in Saskatoon. They did some TSBs as well -- no extra fees with all warranty (I'm past the three year). Good service guy for sure.
