Revit/BIM

Anyone work with Revit or do BIM drafting stuff? Im trying to crash course myself through Revit but hitting a lot of walls.

My biggest issue is files that i'm being given will have different base points or survey points, and may be missing gridlines and I'm not sure how to bring everything together to find the penetrations I'm trying to locate.

Anyone have tips, suggestions, or able to lend a hand?

Thanks!

Strange, what do you guys draft? People always act like I'm hand drafting when I say I need .dwg's. I actually intended and got schooled on mechanical drafting (Solidworks, inventor, ect). Wound up doing architectural masonry which is now drifting into rebar and much more. What a learning curve i've had!

Turns out I was fighting models that had incorrect gridlines - It was never going to work even had I known how to align models in revit lol.

i actually havent used acad for a few years, im a scada and i&c specialist for an industrial elec contractor. all our blueprints are ortho 2d drawings, i passed on the autocad duties years ago. and dammit, today i have to load it up and make a site package because both my drafters are too busy.

I started with board drafting (by hand) but then I learned on AutoCAD Release 10 (DOS version). have AutoCAD 2015 and 2016 full version at home on a built computer (AMD 9590 Vishera 8-core overclocked at 5.2ghz). By trade I'm an Electrical-Mechanical Engineer but also work in the Federal Government sector as a surveyor and Inspector for Joint Commission and non Joint Commission in a Research Hospital. I also own a Engineering consulting firm.

I was doing Architectural/Civil, Telecommunication (Mobile/Broadcast towers), Fire Protection (NICET/AFAA/MXLV/XLSV/MS-200 certified), Electrical-Mechanical (PCB boards), Mechanical and Electrical(low/high voltage), Facility and Plumbing.

2D and 3D rendering. Not much 3D modeling.

Also I have design logo's and furniture to be cut on the CNC Router's (clock's, coin's, etc.).
