Mike M
There is a plastic collar on the inside of the top of the boot. This collar snaps over a ridge on the bottom of the shift knob. It is easiest if you remove the boot from the knob before unscrewing the knob. Using something flat and blunt (like the back side of a butter knife) gently pry the collar away from the shift knob. Be careful to work your way around the whole knob. Once the boot is pried away you simply unscrew the knob. The Subaru Momo knob has a groove in the bottom. After screwing the knob on simply pull the boot top up over the ridge and into the groove.
