harriss2 Posted October 18, 2005 Share Posted October 18, 2005 The gear shifter on my '98 Legacy 2.5GT seems to have a damaged (or missing) spring(s). If the shifter is in neutral and pushed to the right (to engage 5th gear or reverse) and released, the shifter springs back to the left. But if the shifter is in neutral and pushed to the left (to engage 1st or 2nd gear) and released, the shifter does not spring back to the right; it stays right there between 1st and 2nd. Shouldn't the shifter, when in neutral, always spring to the middle position between 3rd and 4th? Does anyone know what this problem is and how to fix it?
