HID kit vs DRL

After the passenger side HID bulb went out on the DDM 35W kit, I ordered new bulbs(cheap) assuming that was the issue. There has never been a problem with ballasts or relays on any of the kits I've purchased from them over the years. I also disconnect the DRL when using HID kits, using the HIDS exclusively.

 

The new bulbs ordered are 4300k, I've only used 5k on different cars. Nothing changed with the setup, but when I go to turn the car on (DRL disconnected) it just has aux power and engine won't start. I checked with the AP and it shows a CANBUS code. This is a first for me. Plug the DRL back in and it starts up fine, no codes and both sides operating as they should.

 

Looking for some opinions on DRL and how it "should" be used in conjunction with HID setups.
