biturbowagon
There are times when I'd like to be able to, say, charge my cellphone overnight. But the cigarette lighter turns off with the ignition key. Is there an easy way to have it be always on? I STFA as well as RTFM, but didn't locate a reference to this particular question. Also, is there a way to make the map lights in the front turn on when you open the door? The owners manual suggests not, but I thought I'd ask. TIA. mwiener2
cig lighter would need to be re-wired. not hard to do. I have my map lights modded like that. Again, they need to be rewired. a little harder than the cig My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons

mwiener2
quick write up of what i did: Reversed polarity on harness for map lights. Took a diode from the positive side of each maplight and wired it to the negative of the dome light. granted, my first attempt i fried the maplight switchs and whenever you turned on a maplight, both would come on along with the dome light. I had to rebuild both switchs and add the diodes My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
Guest *Jedimaster*
Map lights are easy- just have to know what you're doing. The cig lighter should be easy too- worst part will be working some of the wires from under the console.
biturbowagon
Thanks for the info, folks. You've basically answered my question: rewiring is needed. I'd hoped that there might be a switch or code somewhere that I was missing.
