95 Legacy LS

Greetings, I recently purchased a 95 Legacy LS that threw a rod. The engine still runs, but it's loud as hell. EJ22 obviously. Automatic, still has cold cold AC (and I tested it, with the engine clanging the whole time).

I got this car for only $350. It's in decent enough shape for the price, and will make for a fun project. Here's pictures:

This is one of the cars that I'd like to sort of be like (not color-wise though):

I also own a 97 Legacy Outback (and I'm a member on SubaruOutback.org). This car will be the donor for my 95. I know it's pretty common to lower the Legacy's, but I'm going to go the other direction. I plan on raising my 95 with 2nd gen Forester suspension, and any other bits I want to take off my Outback (including front bumper). My Outback currently sits on 27" tires, not huge but they fill the wheel wells and slightly rub on the mudflap bolts from time to time while turning at speed. I'd like to go bigger than this though, and all terrain. Here's the 97:

You can see the rust on the rear quarter, one of the main reasons I plan on retiring this Outback. I've gone off the deep end working on my Outback, got it with blown head gaskets, blew up the first engine after swapping the head gaskets, got a 2nd engine, found out it ALSO had blown head gaskets, so partially rebuilt the 2nd engine. While rebuilding it, I also swapped Phase II SOHC heads on it, and run it on an EJ22 ECU. It's got a decent power bump compared to the original EJ25D that was in it. Here's the engine:

The Outback is also manual, so the Legacy will become a manual. I'm going to swap the whole Outback drivetrain in. Need to find out what the rear diff gearing on the Legacy is to see if I need to swap that as well, but I'm not too scared of that. I plan on rebuilding the EJ22 if possible, hopefully the thrown rod didn't mess up the internals too much. If I do, it will be so I can turbo it down the road, probably Megasquirt for fuel/spark management.

Thanks for reading. :coffee:

Great buy at $350! Looks like a fun project

Yeah I'm stoked!

I see you have an e30, one of my other projects is an 84 eta. It's up in Dallas right now though, need to tow it down here to Austin so I can get started. Plan is to put a Ford 302 in it.
