kent55
I have a very light coat of plasti dip on my wheels from 2 years ago and I can't peel it off. Are there any ticks to dissolve it without melting the wheel paint underneath? Thanks for your ideas.
Merc6
Microfiber towel and detail spray usually got it for me. Rubbing alcohol if that didn't work. Last resort add more coats to it, like 3 then let it dry and peel from there. 2005 Satin White Pearl Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Unlimited 5EAT (Project Car) 2019 Agate Black Ford Explorer XLT 4WD (DD)
Redslaya
WD-40 will melt it right off without touching the paint
Merc6
WD-40 will melt it right off without touching the paint That too, it's not as destructive as is sounds but still wash the surface once you get the dip off. . 2005 Satin White Pearl Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Unlimited 5EAT (Project Car) 2019 Agate Black Ford Explorer XLT 4WD (DD)
Phate
WD-40 will melt it right off without touching the paint I second this suggestion for things like wheels. I've used WD40 on a rag for quick cleanup/shine on wheels and engine bay components before. Not using enough coats of plasti dip is the worst. I did just enough for coverage when I blacked out the window moldings on my accord (because 90's chrome strips around the windows look tacky and awful), and when I decided to re-do it spent forever trying to peel it off. Plasi dip iself has plenty of solvents in it, so the "shoot 3-5 more coats and peel" option works extremely well too.
kent55
Thanks for your ideas. I used clear dip to protect my winter wheels from the winter salts 2 years ago. The clear did a great job....oh, also had a brake caliper issue hence the burnt brake dust. http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy26/kent55/IMG_20160906_210351127.jpg http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy26/kent55/IMG_20160906_210258971.jpg
Merc6
That looks like 1 can used per side or possibly all 4 vs 1 can per wheel as recommended. 2005 Satin White Pearl Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Unlimited 5EAT (Project Car) 2019 Agate Black Ford Explorer XLT 4WD (DD)
kent55
I actually only sprayed the outer areas as seen in the pictures -not the full spokes. I wanted to see if I could slow the paint from chipping off from corrosion by keeping the salt off of it. Worst part is I did it outside as it was starting to snow at night! I'm quite surprised it's this good! Merc6- You really know your Plasti Dip!!!!
Dujo
Goo Gone will also dissolve Plasti Dip.
kent55
I tried Goo Gone and WD40 and the Plastic Dip is gone and wheels look brand new Thanks!
GrasshopperLGT
Lots of people hate the idea of plasti dip. I love it. Protects and looks good. I think the key is make sure the surface of whatever you are going to be spraying is clean, very very very clean and dry. I used 1 can per wheel and 2 years later they still look like the day I sprayed them. And my car is driven every day - located in PA with the salt and cinders! I'm cool with it as I used it to change colors of my interior for my other car but rather have a good vinyl wrap. The wrong cleaners would dull it making me have to clean and re glossify it. Then I had the issue with crystal vs frost every other attempt to use it. 2005 Satin White Pearl Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Unlimited 5EAT (Project Car) 2019 Agate Black Ford Explorer XLT 4WD (DD)

Never used it on the legacy, just the DD. I blacked out the hideous chrome trunk bar that's soon to be vinyl. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k280/merc6/9353C9BE-2D7F-41BE-A9F2-E78FFF0EF1A8_zps9hezfoip.jpg~original http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k280/merc6/16F4DFD6-374D-427B-B010-5D14862526BE_zpsg8wzrhff.jpg~original I also did the interior also soon to be vinyl. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k280/merc6/0F58B1A6-D444-4FD2-A1D7-309402CDC7CC_zpszw23ovtd.jpg~original http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k280/merc6/9046846D-FAD6-4D61-A7C7-677C61906597_zpszvvzmwnz.jpg~original http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k280/merc6/38560D89-3FB8-4D77-9514-22CAC2D7B575_zpsdl5yal7x.jpg~original http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k280/merc6/62714126-DA5F-424C-AB11-46B4AB91F036_zpsrubhbyqc.jpg~original 2005 Satin White Pearl Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Unlimited 5EAT (Project Car) 2019 Agate Black Ford Explorer XLT 4WD (DD)
