witzode
Hey Guys, Looking for some opinions here. I have a 2005 Legacy GT Limited and the transmission started whining. It shifts smoothly, just continuously whines. It increase loudness/pitch with speed and doesn't change regardless of what gear it's in, clutch in, clutch out, neutral. If you move the shifter around it will make the noise a little louder. I brought it to 2 shops and they are recommending replacing the transmission. One shop was $3900, another was $2500 for a used transmission, 100k miles on it. I could bring it to a subaru specific shop and pay $1300 to open it up and look at the bearings and replace those if needed, but there is a chance they do that and recommend the whole thing needs to be replaced. Does it sound like it could just be bearings? Seems risky to potentially throw away $1300 but also seems risky to put a used transmission in. What would you do? Are there any other options? The car has under 10k on a new block, and 150k on transmission. Thanks Rich
