Did some stuff, Wanna do some more stuff. Have a couple questions.

Recommended Posts

Well, I've damn near given up on fixing this motor for now. I'm gonna look for a decent bottom end.. Considering where I am, that will probably be impossible or expensive.

But, I've been driving the car and it's ran smooth, once it warms up. just that little noise.. and sometimes it seems weak as compared to the 00 sedan I had.

I've also cleaned it up a little more. Shaved some of the badges on the back. The legacy badge was broken and the P/O gorilla glued the Y to the car -_-.

I blitz blacked the mirror triangles. No more faded fiberglass.

Dipped the grille and wheels.

Cleaned the engine bay.

and some more piddly stuff.

I messaged a guy on here about motor Group N mounts/dogbone. I'll still need to do some other bushings and a trans mount but that should help a LOT.

Also, the exhaust hanger at the axle broke off and a patch on the exhaust broke. So now I sound like the worst racecar ever.

Questions.

I have an 02, Can I have the ecu tuned? Like, If I have the exhaust done, could I go catless and flash it?

3" or 2.5" cat back? I wanna go with a custom setup but which is gonna get better MPG/Power

If I happened across a plastic intake mani from a 05-06 LGT would It fit on my SOHC 2.5? What would It take to make that work.

If I buy a bottom end and rebuild it with good bearings is it gonna reliable?

I was thinking of getting a 251/3 bottom and 2.2 heads using the plastic intake mani and some cams. Having it at least semi built and ready to go so I can just swap it.

Then again, maybe It's just not worth saving -_-.

Anyways,

PICS

well i think what you are looking for is a piggy back since our ecu's cannot be tuned without one. its either a "piggy back" or a stand alone. then i read this so maybe not.

you can always hollow out your cats instead of buying a new system, if you want catless

why do you want an 05/ 06 lgt plastic intake.? is there something i dont know? you would have to swap everything over since i dont think you can run those injectors or fuel rails or sensors with your car. they have TGV which is something you dont want.

this might have more info

I could have sworn I read somewhere I could reflash my ecu. Isn't it the same as an impreza rs?

This is why I thought I'd need a reflash. Wouldn't I run rich/lean with a gutted cat?

I need a new exhaust anyways, I was gonna go with an aero turbine stealth 2.5 inch and have a local place run the pipe.

It weighs less, Doesn't heat soak as bad, flows smoother. Heat soak is real on a hot day and I can tell the difference between a hot and cold day going up the mountains here.

It can be modded to work. I've seen a few threads where people have done it, but no one has shown the full process.

I guess I could do phelonic spacers and nasa gold tape. But then I'm adding weight..

I feel like the 2.5i has a slightly updated motor...

maybe you can reflash them im just not into that sort of thing, if my car even runs then im a happy camper. but some research into that tactrix cable might help. too.http://www.romraider.com/Documentation/SupportedECUs according to this our ecu's are 16 bits where the ones you can reflash are 32 bit, and cannot be supported by romraider software.

and yes going cat-less will make you run lean unless you space your 02 sensor properly and take it out of the direct exhaust flow causing it to not throw a code. spark plug bung spacers and 90 degree angles are used for this. YMMV since this has not worked for some people also.

and i am unsure about the intake also i would assume you would just have to switch everything over just to be safe but i think it can be done.

Ebay has plastic TGV deletes.

The intake will be something I do once I sort the running situation, I was just wondering if anyone on here had done it..

my CEL actually came on last night. It isn't on now, I'll assume its the 02 for now, next time it's on I'll have it checked.

My little knock is still there.

I can hear it right here with the steth. Even if the motor sounds quiet, I can hear it here.
