brooksen
My first post. I have a 2004 Legacy 2.5 with auto trans. My wife was using the car 2 weeks ago when it 'bucked' , misfire etc., required flat bed to repair shop. Mechanic found that #4 cyl had 0 compression. Took the engine out, inspected and saw dropped valve guide and burnt valve. He also found a few dropped guides. He asked if I had any overheating problems. I never had an overheating problem. The temp gauge appears to work normal, reaches middle of travel. I have always had oil changes at prescribed time/mileage at the dealer. I purchased my Legacy with 40,000 mi. Car came with a 2 year full warranty and had a new dealer installed short block (the used the original heads and all else not included on short block). The car now has 80,000 miles when the problem occurred. Any thoughts to a cause of the valve guides would be welcome. The car ran very well until this happened, no problems.
