Expertize
So... I was hoping to get a new car (my first car) which is the 1999 Subaru Legacy GT Limited 30th Anniversary Edition that has a little less than 200k miles on it. And we're generally a Toyota and Honda family so we're really new to subaru engines. So my question is are Subaru engines generally more loud than inline engines? Cause my dad looked at the car and was revving the engine and i think he heard some valve train noises or something else and he shook his head. Is this normal? rmoore5
Yes I found the Subaru's I've had were more noisy than my previous cars. But they also have more picky oiling than old design cast iron motor's. You better have someone with specific Subaru experience listen to the engine before buying. rmoore5
And by picky oiling , I mean rod and main bearing problems.
RumbleRumble
As long as it doesnt sound like knocking you should be fine. Ticking is just fuel injectors going on and off. Post a video of the noise if you can.
