Headlight beam pattern/glare issues

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I recently restored my headlights using the 3M kit. I am not very aware of the beam pattern that my headlights are producing, and I am wondering if any of you experience the same thing. The headlights produce a pretty nice cutoff (for being reflectors), but have a severe glare that shoots off into oncoming drivers eyes. You would think it would be the opposite and would shoot off onto the side of the road to illuminate signs and hazards. I'm tired of getting high beamed and feeling bad about driving at night. I can't aim the beams much lower than what they are now, seeing as I would still like to be able to see at night.

Maybe this is just the nature of the beast...

Ignore the tape on the garage door. That was just me doing some testing with another car's lights.

Both headlights on:

That happens with JDM headlights, because they are made for left side driving, for right side driving, the light cut is on the other way

That's what I was afraid of...

I bought the car used, so I'm kind of unaware of what's been done to it.

Can I assume that this was something the previous owner swapped out? I can't imagine this is an OEM part for US Subaru's?

Wow. I'm not sure what's causing it. Can you snap a pic of the headlight itself? My guess would be the domed piece in the reflector

I'll have to get back to you on that, but I'm pretty sure that the domed piece is still there.

As Psycho_TwM said, these are probably the JDM headlights, designed for driving on the other side of the road.
